About Antalya, The city of Antalya corresponds to the lands of ancient Pamphylia to the east and Lycia to the west. Antalya has a hot climate.

Situated on a cliff over the Mediterranean, Antalya is surrounded by mountains. Atatürk claimed that without doubt Antalya is the most beautiful place in the world.

Developments in tourism, starting in the 1970’s, transformed the city into an international resort.

History, The City has lived through many periods and invasions from it’s Hellenistic beginnings through Roman, Byzantine, Selcuk and Otoman rules until now. There are many interesting sights around the City, the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian was commemorated by the building of “Hadrian’s Gate” located on the main street, also a number of Mosques which originally Temples or churches and the Archeological Museum are all worth a visit.
From the findings resulting from the archeological digs carried out in and around Antalya, it has been ascertained that the region was inhabited 50 thousand years ago. The proof was uncovered in the Karain Cave situated near Yagcikoy, 27 km north-west of Antalya. Remains of the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze ages were unearthed in this cave.

In 150 BC Attalos II, king of Pergamon, founded the city of Attalia (present day Antalya) to base his powerful naval fleet. Later Antalya became part of the Roman Republic in 133 BC when King Attalos III of Pergamum willed his kingdom to Rome at his death and the city grew and prospered in the Ancient Roman period.
